Value of learning and play

Research shows that the first six years are when children from their neural pathways and connections. Creativity, communication, problem-solving, resilience, emotional regulation and relationship building are developed from these early years and are critical skills needed for school and adult life.
The correlation between the way adults and children learn follows two key principals: active learning and have fun!
The Play Frog Language program combines these approaches to engage all children and teachers; encouraging motivation and developing an enthusiasm to participate. The impact of this, from my experience with the centres I worked with, is greater creativity, curiosity and perseverance. This could also support teachers wellbeing and development.

Why learn a foreign language?

Bilingual children outperform others in reading, writing, analytical and social skills
Learning a second language has been shown to improve spatial abilities, attention span, dealing with distractions or ambiguities and resolving conflicts. Children who engage with a second language at an early age develop an "ear" for language and achieve better fluency later in life.
Learning a second language builds grey matter density
The brain’s left side is responsible for processing information and controlling aspects of sensory perception, memory and speech. Neural pathways and connections are formed in the first five years - making this the prime "window" of opportunity to begin language acquisition. Learning a new language means your brain has to cope with complexity as it makes sense of and absorbs new patterns.
Learning a second language stimulates brain development
Children who learn a second language develop greater confidence, self-esteem, better social development and interpersonal skills. Research shows bilinguals perform better in a wide range of intelligence test and aspects of school achievement. The cognitive benefits of learning a language have a direct impact on a child's academic achievement.
  • "To have another language is to possess a second soul"
    Charlemagne
  • “The great enemy of foreign language learning is a sense of shame, an inability or unwillingness to become like a child again and let one's inadequacies show.”
    Herbert A.Simon, cognitive psychologist
  • "One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every doors along the way"
    Frank Smith, Psycholinguist
